the
Interim Chairperson Mrs Julie
Marsaban
Like so
many others, I was deeply shocked and saddened when I heard the news of
the unexpected, tragic death of Mrs. Mizue Hara, the Yayasan's Chairman;
and of her husband Mr. Yasuo "Pepe" Hara. I have known them both
personally through Mizue’s work as Chairman of the Goodwill Leadership
Development Scholarship Programme with the ever-patient support of her
husband, “Pepe”. They will certainly be missed by many who have had the
good fortune to meet them, even if only briefly.
Subsequently
the Board of Pembina have asked me to take the role of Interim
Chairperson of Goodwill. Without much hesitation, and in honour of Mrs
Mizue’s memory for her dedication to the Goodwill students, I humbly
accepted the invitation and as of June 22nd, 2010 I am taking
the role of Interim Chairperson for Yayasan Goodwill International until
a new, permanent Chairperson is appointed.
My first task
at hand is to assure all of you that the sponsorship and training
program will continue. The last training sessions for 2009/2010 have
been rescheduled to Saturday, 24th July, 2010 and the
Orientation Day for the new batch of 2010/2011 students is scheduled for
Monday, 9th August, 2010.
My next
immediate task would be to assist the Board of Pembina in the process of
identifying and selecting/appointing a permanent Yayasan Chairperson and
Administrator. We will keep you informed as we progress.
I should add
that the confidence to take on this role was mainly due to my belief
that I can rely on the support from the dedicated Yayasan staff Ibu
Mien, Rosa, Broto, the students and instructors and sponsors alike to
ensure the program will continue smoothly in this transitional period. I
may be calling on you for your assistance in these next few weeks.
