Message from
the
Interim Chairperson Mrs Julie
Marsaban
May 10, 2011
It is now over 10 months since I was asked by Goodwill trustees to take
on the role as the Chairman of the Goodwill Leadership Development
Scholarship and since the tragic and untimely deaths of Mrs. Mizue and
Mr. ‘Pepe’ Hara. It was to be a ‘stop-gap’ role as my departure from
Jakarta was tentatively scheduled for November 2011.
I left Jakarta in February and Mrs. Mien Wibowo has taken charge of all
Chairperson roles and duties. With the support of the Board of Trustees,
Goodwill Board and staff, Mrs. Mien has been doing a wonderful job in
keeping the Goodwill ‘wheel’ turning and organized the interviewing of
the latest candidate students, with 43 students meeting the selection
criteria. There are now 93 current students and on average 35 of these
will be applying for an extension.
Goodwill is now seeking pledges from current sponsors and the general
public for the sponsorships for the continuing current and new intake
for the 2011 – 2012 academic year. After careful review of the living
costs and taking the advice from the Treasurer, the 2011 – 2012
sponsorship has been determined by the Board of Trustees to be Rp.
6,900,000 per student (increased from Rp. 6,000,000).
This year I made a special trip back to Jakarta to take part in the
Kinasih Special Training Weekend of April 16 – 17th. The programme was
organized by the students, for the students and it went very well. It
was apparent that everyone had a good time and that the students were
bonding.
It has been an honour for me to be able to serve the Goodwill community
and since I am no longer residing in Jakarta it is no longer practical
for me to carry out the duties of the Chairperson position. The effort
of identifying and selecting/appointing a permanent Yayasan Chairperson
is still on-going and we welcome suggestions from our sponsors and
patrons.
Although I will not be involved physically in the day-to-day management
and supervision of Goodwill I am always available to assist Goodwill in
any way I am capable. and I wish the best for all the Goodwill students,
sponsors, patrons, instructors, our institutional partners, University
of Indonesia and University of Agriculture and last but not least, the
Board Members and Staff.
I believe that the Goodwill students will achieve great heights and I am
not surprised if in the not so far future that these students will be in
important positions in companies, organizations and the government.
Once again, thank you for the opportunity of being a part of the
Goodwill family. Please accept my apologies for any shortcomings from my
part.
Sincerely,
Julie Marsaban
